Ski and Snow Tubing Trip – January 7th!

It’s coming…

scoutsundayskiing2018

Troop 48 has invited the pack out for a day in the snow at Jack Frost Mountain up in the Poconos at New Haven, PA.  Scout families can take advantage of  special Scout Group rates to try skiing or snowboarding (all children must be 8 years old or older to ski or snowboard), which includes all the equipment needed, a lift ticket, and a lesson (for those who want to take advantage).

For those of us with younger Scouts/kids, or if skiing isn’t your thing, there are also special Scout group rates on snow tubing.  $22 per person for a three hour session (10 AM to 1 PM OR 1 PM to 4 PM) of $37 for the whole day.  Families and friends are invited to come (and, as always for these outings, each Scout must be accompanied by a responsible adult)

Payments are due in by Thursday, December 27th!  Checks can be made out to “Troop 48”, and can be passed on to Ms. Heidi, your den leaders, or to Mike!  Payments can also be dropped off during the Boy Scout meetings on Wednesday nights (just ask Mike – michaelmccormick26@gmail.com – if you need to know where the Boy Scout meetings are).

“Dinosaurs After Dark” Camp in – January 13 to 14th!

Our “Dinosaurs After Dark” Camp-In at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia is coming up in a few short months – January 13th to 14th!

8-year-old Cubmaster Mike swears it will be awesome.
Scan0004 - Copy

Pack 48 at the Academy of Natural Sciences in 1990.  Fanny packs optional in 2018.

A description of the program:
“Go on an ancient adventure during this special Night in the Museum! See Tiny Titans: Dinosaur Eggs and Babies like you’ve never seen it before on a flashlight tour, show off your paleo-skills during hands-on games and activities, and jacket your own fossil to take home. Experience our eggs-cellent special exhibit before it leaves!”

We’ll also – pick our sleeping spot next to lions, tigers, or dinosaurs, where we’ll spend the night., go on a scavenger hunt, do a hands-on experiment, or inspect some not-so-creepy crawlies, explore every corner of the Academy’s famous exhibits, including the live butterfly garden and dinosaur bone dig, and enjoy a fascinating live animal show.

What do we need to do to be a part of it?

Who can go?: Due to the nature of this program, it is open only to registered Cub Scouts of Pack 48, and is not part of our usual family program.  Every Scout must have a parent or guardian with them for the duration of the program.  That parent/guardian can be responsible for up to three children (I don’t think anyone has more than two Scouts with us yet), so each individual Scout in a family does NOT need a separate guardian.
What does it cost?:  This costs $65 per person.  The is payable to the Pack by cash or check.  All checks can be made out to “Troop 48” and can be passed on to your Den Leaders, to our Treasurer Heidi Iannuzzi, or to myself.
We will be collecting money for Scouts who are attending this program from now until Thursday, November 30th.

November Pack Meeting – Thanking our veterans!

IMG_8625

November saw that “A Scout is kind.” We learned about what our veterans have done for their country, wrote thank you cards to the VFW members, and decided a way we’ll be kind this month!  We also had a rousing game of “dirty room”, always a hit!

We finished up by handing out Pack 48’s first awards of the year!  Plenty more to earn where those came from!

At the end of October, our Lion Cubs visited Boy Scout Troop 48 to take part in a flag ceremony.  They also had fun being first aid victims to help the Boy Scouts practice their skills.  Thanks Boy Scouts!
